Maybe You Ought To Give This Some Thought

So you have an Internet business. That's great. You've got your
site together, bombarded the search engines, FFA pages, free
classifieds and maybe even spent some money on advertising.

You've had the exhilaration of your first, tenth or hundredth
sale. WOW!! This is cyber-Las Vegas. Opportunities everywhere
beckon with glitzy pictures, glamour, and sometimes even sound in
this fantastic cyber-world of free enterprise and equal
opportunity.

But - you do have a business don't you? I assume
you've contacted an accountant and a lawyer about those aspects
of your business. You haven't? Too expensive? Don't sweat the
small stuff?

Well, there's one bomb there which, if it ever
explodes, could become big stuff real quick. Perhaps you don't
realize there's an inexpensive way to cover the legal side of
your business.

Suppose one of your cyber-neighbors decides to harass you or
steal your ideas? Everyday your inbox is full of garbage from
this guy or there's your web-page with somebody else's name on
it.

Would you rather handle it yourself or simply call your
lawyer and have him write or call this person? You've started
filing a Schedule D with your tax return, haven't you? The IRS
reads these with interest. Probably a better chance of an audit.
Would you rather handle that yourself or have your lawyer go with
you?

Would it be nice to know that a lawyer has reviewed the
legal documents and agreements which are a part of your business?

Finally - maybe a poor word choice - what if suddenly you're no
longer around to manage your business? What will happen to it?
Might be nice to know your intentions are legally documented.

Services are available which cover all these things and much
more. They operate much like an HMO. This isn't a new concept.
The largest company offering such services had a network of 2700
of the top legal firms in the country providing services to some
750,000 members the last time I looked.

This is a 27 year old
NYSE listed company, hardly a fly-by-night outfit. Legal service
plans are available to cover families - including teenage drivers
we spend so much time worrying about - businesses, law
enforcement officers, and commercial drivers. Some corporations
even offer group plans as a benefit to their employees.

The freedom the Internet offers is wonderful. With freedom comes
responsibility. The responsibility to protect ourselves against
real dangers. That's why we have anti-virus software, computer
backup systems, and car, home, medical and life insurance.

This article has only touched the surface. Do yourself a favor.
Take a little time and investigate the details. You'll have the
comfort of knowing you made an informed decision no matter what
you decide to do.

A smile a day helps the pain go away.

A magician was working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The
audience would be different each week, so the magician allowed
himself to do the same tricks over and over again. 

There was only one problem:  The captain's parrot saw the
shows every week and began to understand what the magician did
in every trick.  Once he understood that, he started shouting
in the middle of the show. 

"Look, it's not the same hat!"  "Look, he's hiding the flowers
under the table!" "Hey, why are all the cards the Ace of
Spades?" 

The magician was furious but couldn't do anything, it was the
captain's parrot after all.  

One day the ship had an accident and sank. The magician found
himself on a piece of wood, in the middle of the ocean, and of
course the parrot was by his side. 

They stared at each other with hate, but did not utter a
word.  This went on for several days. 

After a week the parrot finally said, "Okay, I give up. 
What'd you do with the boat?"

The Misdirected Vacation E-Mail
An Illinois man left the snow-filled streets
of Chicago for a vacation
in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and
was planning to meet
him there the next day. When he reached his
hotel in Florida, he decided
to send his wife a quick e-mail.  Unable to find
the scrap of paper on
which he had written her e-mail address, he did
his best to type it in from memory.
Unfortunately, he missed one letter
and his note was
directed instead to
an elderly preacher's wife whose husband had
passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her
e-mail, she took one look at
the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell
to the floor in a dead faint. At the
sound, her family rushed into the room and saw
this note on the screen:

HOW I FEEL ABOUT LIFE AND WHY

Life is a beautiful and cherished gift from our Heavenly Father

As any gift, some are wrapped more gracious than others.

Some are more practical than others.

Some are wrapped with beautiful paper.

Some come in brown paper wrappings.

But however it is wrapped - life to the receiver is precious.

Some of those wrapped in beautiful paper take most things for granted.

Some take the brown paper wrappings and make it their stepping stone to higher things.

Some people's wrappings, whether beautiful or brown paper, get crumpled up along the way.

Some of this crumpled up wrappings get picked up along the way and smoothed out until the creases are hardly visible.

Some, it is sad to say, stay crumpled up and get walked on.

It doesn't matter if the wrappings got picked up and the creases smoothed out or if it remains crumpled up and walked on - both need that helping hand to make it through life.

It is beautiful to watch how God provides that helping hand in life just when it is needed. I wish I knew the ingredient that makes one reach out and grab that hand and another rejects it.

But it is oh so comforting to know that our precious Jesus loves the hand that rejects just as much as the hand that reaches out.

It is said that all things are equal - but that is not the case. I am sure that the brown crumpled up life would love to be the beautiful wrapping paper. But the brown crumpled up paper must struggle, but will never achieve the stature of the beautiful wrapping paper.

But in the end when Jesus reaches out His arms and says 'Well done my good and faithful servant' the lives blend into one beautiful and glorious walk, hand in hand with Jesus. He doesn't care whether you are a brown paper wrapping or a beautiful glorious wrapping. Both are just the right size for His arms.
