Who is raising YOUR goal post?

Some of you will have exceeded your dreams and hopes and others are
still reaching.

Whether you have reached it or are still reaching - the goals are
still the same - those that have reached it are striving for a higher
goal and those still reaching are trying to reach their goal. Either
way - goals are the same - reach higher.

As I was growing up I use to get so discouraged because as I reached
each goal my parents set for me, they always moved the goal post,
therefore I always felt like a failure because I never quite reached
the goals they set for me - not realizing they were teaching me to reach
higher. I grew up feeling I never pleased my parents because I could never
meet their goals. Not realizing until many, many years later that they
were really proud of me for striving to reach what goals they set for
me.

Just remember to encourage those who are reaching and if you set the
goals higher - compliment them for reaching one goal.

I have a water arobics instructor who is a great inspiration to so many.
The odds are totally against her, but she fights on. Never gives up and
never complains. She had a stroke and was paralyzed for 3 years, she has
multiple scierosis, one lung, heart problems, kidney problems and has to
walk with her foot in a brace and she is our arobics instructor!!! Now
I'm not talking about any senior arobics - I am talking about an hour and
one-half of hard arobics - even the young people drop out because they
say it is too hard.

Now that is inspiration! When we complain she gives us all a pity party and
the whole class can say ahhhhhh, poor baby. Then we laugh and go on. And
because of the determination of this individual, everyone strives harder.

This is the kind of inspiration you can be to those around you - reach
higher and don't complain. No matter what life hands you, there is some
way you can reach higher.

This individual had a doctor tell her to stop trying so hard and just lay
down and die, she was terminal. Did it make her give up? No way - it gave
her the fight she needed to reach higher - she began, inch by inch working
out in the water, building her muscles - she had to have her walker
tied around her hands so she could stand up and work her legs and the
doctors cannot believe her now - I have never seen such fight and such
inspiration.

One thing this instructor tells us - she says 'can't' is one word she will
not tolerate. She says if we want to use 'can't' replace it with a 4 letter
word every time - I thought she was crazy - but you know it works, every
time you want to say 'can't' you have to use the 4 letter word - and guess
what - most of us won't use that 4 letter word, so therefore - we don't
say 'can't.' It works. Try it sometime - every time the word 'can't' comes
to your mind - replace it with that 4 letter word - you'll soon see the
word 'can't' disappear from your mind.

This fight was part of the inspiration for my Pity Party 6 Pack project.
Everyone deserves a pity party every now and then - give it to them and
then move on - it's not the end.

I received an advertisement this week with the heading 'Do you remember
when phones had dials." Cheeze - I remember when you had to crank
them.
Boy am I telling my age. The point being - never before in history is
the opportunity available that is available right now.

You can learn anything you want via the Internet - look up any subject
you have an interest in just by entering a word in a search engine. Those
who are left behind today, want to be left behind. Just as computers are
intimidating to a majority of older people, the new technology will
intimidate all of us if we don't stay on top of it.

Don't be afraid to reach out and learn something new. Don't say 'I can't
build web pages because I don't know how." There are enough free
instructions to teach you from beginning to end - just search for it.

Don't say - I can't have a business - I don't have a product. There are
literally hundreds of products on the internet that are yours for the
taking.
It can be done as easily as registering with ClickBank.com and get a
nickname. Look across the web and there are hundreds of programs to
become an affiliate with and all you do is promote it.

You don't know how to promot it? - There are hundreds of free e-books
which walks you step by step through the process, where to go, what to
do and all that you need to build your business.

There is no excuse now for letting this new year run off and leave you
staring at the screen wishing - well wishing don't make it come true -
doing something does.

Now during this coming year - when I find the magic wand that makes the
fat melt off your body - I'll be sure to clue you in on that one also.
This is one I will strive for this year and I will try and take some of
my own medicine. I'll let you know the ups and downs of that battle. My
husband is joining me in this one and he has the will power - you can
imagine who will be moving my goal post again. Seems someone is always
moving my goal post, but it keeps me reaching.

May this New Year be one that you jump and reach that goal post, no matter
how high someone else may be raising it.

A while back I was reading about an expert on the subject of time
management. This expert was speaking to a group of business
students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration I'm sure
those students will never forget. After I share it with you, you'll never
forget it either.

As this man stood in front of the group of high-powered over achievers
he said, "Okay, time for a quiz." Then he pulled out a one-gallon,
wide-mouthed mason jar and set it on a table in front of him. Then he
produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one
at a time, into the jar. When the jar was filled to the top and no
more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is this jar full?"

Everyone in the class said, "Yes."

Then he said, "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled out a
bucket of gravel. Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar
causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces
between the big rocks.
Then he smiled and asked the group once more, "Is the jar full?"
By this time the class was onto him. "Probably not," one of them
answered.

"Good!" he replied. And he reached under the table and brought out a
bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in and it went into all
the
spaces left between the rocks and the gravel.

Once more he asked the question, "Is this jar full?" "No!" the class
shouted. Once again he said, "Good!" Then he grabbed a pitcher of
water and began to pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim.
Then he looked up at the class and asked, "What is the point of this
illustration?"

One eager beaver raised his hand and said, "The point is, no matter how

full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit some
more things into it!"

"No," the speaker replied, "that's not the point. The truth this
illustration teaches us is: If you don't put the big rocks in first,
you'll never get them in at all."

The title of this letter is 'The "Big Rocks" of Life'. What are the
big rocks in your life? A project that YOU want to accomplish?
Time with your loved ones? Your faith, your education, your finances?
A cause? Teaching or mentoring others? Remember to put these
BIG ROCKS in first or you'll never get them in at all. --------

So, tonight when you are reflecting on this short story, ask yourself
this question: What are the "big rocks" in my life or business? Put
those
in your jar tomorrow.

I heard about a college that had a question on a test and it really
counted - it was - give the name of the janitor of the school.

The students were surprised to hear that one and ask did it really
count as a grade - the teacher replied - it certainly did.

Well needless to say - none of them got it right - the point of
the question is - every person counts. Those students will
never again find anyone not important enought to speak to and
find out their names. Every person is important.

When I worked in the business world - no one could understand
how I could always manage to get things done by asking the
maintenance departments to do certain things - I never had to
ask twice - the secret - after every luncheon or social function,
I did not bundle up all the left overs and give it to special friends,
I always swiftly covered it up and called the maintenance to come
and get it - They always remembered that.

Not that they were not important enough to be invited, but it was a very
large company and departments stayed within their departments.

This is one story I just had to pass along to you.

Calling in sick to work makes me uncomfortable. No matter how
legitimate my illness, I always sense my boss thinks I am lying.

On one occasion, I had a valid reason, but lied anyway because the
truth was too humiliating. I simply mentioned that I had sustained a head
injury and I hoped I would feel up to coming in the next day. By then,
I could think up a doozy to explain the bandage on my crown.

The accident occurred mainly because I conceded to my wife's wishes to
adopt a cute little kitty. Initially the new acquisition was no problem, but
one morning I was taking my shower after breakfast when I heard my wife,
Deb, call out to me from the kitchen. "Ed! The garbage disposal is dead.
Come
reset it."

"You know where the button is." I protested through the
shower(pitter-patter). "Reset it yourself!" "I am scared!" She pleaded.
What if it starts going and sucks me in?" (Pause) "C'mon, it'll only take a
second."

So out I came, dripping wet and buck naked, hoping to make a
statement about how her cowardly behavior was not without consequence.
I crouched down and stuck my head under the sink to find the button.

It is the last action I remember performing. It struck without warning,
without
respect to my circumstances. Nay, it wasn't a hexed disposal drawing me
into its gnashing metal teeth. It was our new kitty, clawing playfully at
the
dangling objects she spied between my legs.

She had been poised around the corner and stalked me as I took the bait
under the sink. At precisely the second I was most vulnerable, she leapt at
the toys I unwittingly offered and snagged them with her needle-like claws.
I lost all rational thought to control orderly bodily movements, while
rising upwardly at a violent rate of speed, with the full weight of a kitten
hanging from my masculine region.

Wild animals are sometimes faced with a "fight or flight" syndrome. Men,
in this predicament, choose only the "flight" option. Fleeing straight up,
the sink and cabinet bluntly impeded my ascent; the impact knocked me
out cold. When I awoke, my wife and the paramedics stood over me.
Having been fully briefed by my wife, the paramedics snorted as they
tried to conduct their work while suppressing their hysterical laughter.

At the office, colleagues tried to coax an explanation out of me. I kept
silent, claiming it was too painful to talk. "What's the matter, cat got
your tongue?" If they had only known.

are a champion!"

The boy is surprised, but does
not understand. Then the father
explains: "People call this ECHO,
but really this is LIFE. It gives
you back everything you say or
do. Our life is simply a reflection
of our actions. If you want more
love in the world, create more love
in your heart.

If you want more competence in
your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything,
in all aspects of life; Life will give you
back everything you have given to it."
